Keynote Address
(and supporting workshops):
Creating the Cognitive Context for
Learning and Other Brain-Based Teaching Strategies
(90 to 120
Minutes) $5,000 plus 10 copies of the book
Instructional Practices That Maximize Student Achievement
($54.95 each plus s/h).
The program is designed to
insure the implementation of these important strategies in every
classroom in the district or school. The address provides teachers
with the skills to raise student achievement by effectively creating
a cognitive context for their students. Teachers learn the brain
based research supporting the posting and stating of agendas,
posting and stating of mastery objectives and essential questions,
use of activators, summarizers, connecting the curriculum to
previous learning, students’ own lives, the real world, and other
brain based strategies. The address is based on Dr. Ribas’ book
Instructional Practices That Maximize Student
Achievement: For Teachers, By Teachers.
After the address all the teachers in the
district work with the administrators and coaches on implementing
these strategies.
Prior
to the address, Dr. Ribas holds a four hour workshop with the
administrative staff and coaches. At this meeting he previews the
keynote address and provides the administrators and coaches with a
menu of work options for use during the group work periods after the
address. A decision is made as to which menu option will be
addressed by each teacher work group. The administrators and coaches
are each assigned to lead a work group.
A
second four hour workshop is held in the weeks after the keynote
address day. In that workshop Dr. Ribas teaches the administrators
how to create building and department action plans for implementing
the cognitive context strategies in every classroom in the district.
Dr.
Ribas will provide the district with a copy of the power point
slides and other handouts. The district will copy these for the
participants.
Keynote address (and supporting workshops)
Motivating the Low Motivation Student and the Nature of Intelligence
(90 to 120
Minutes)
$5,000 plus 10 copies of the book
Instructional Practices That Maximize Student Achievement ($54.95
each plus s/h).
David
Perkins, Carol Dweck, Ruby Payne, and Howard Gardner have studied
those student groups with a higher incidence of low school
motivation. They identified the connection between the beliefs about
intelligence held by these students and their level of motivation.
They have created strategies designed to reduce the cycle of low
motivation. This address is designed to help educators understand
the reasons for the cycle of low motivation that inhibits the
success of these students. It provides concrete strategies for
teachers. The program is designed to
insure the implementation of these important strategies in every
classroom in the district or school.
